ŞEHID NAMIRIN
Şehid Kendal, born in Spain, was martyred on March 13, 2018 in Deir ez-Zor while in close combat with the so called Islamic State (ISIS/Daesh) terrorist organization. While clearing a building, a Daesh IED exploded causing heval Kendal to fall Şehid and injuring three others including the international unit commander. In Kurdistan we say “Şehid Namirin.” This means “martyrs never die.” We say this because the struggle they fought and died for, the freedom they pursued and the heroic deeds they achieved are never forgotten and the community, the world, will always remember their sacrifice.

VOLUNTEERING
Our work in Şengal is necessary to secure autonomy and security for the Yazidi people after their genocide committed by ISIS terrorists in 2014-2017. We are dedicated to creating radical democracy and freedom for the people of Şengal. During your 8 month contract you will be given military training, Kurdish language education, and ideological education, after your 8 months the militia will assist you in returning to your home countries should you choose to return.
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
The YBS (Shengal Defense Unit) is preparing an international tabur (unit).
Requirements:
- 8 months of service minimun
- voluntary basis
- military knowledge is desirable but not
necessary
- finance your own trip and stay in the city that we will give you until we pick you up
- living like the other militias
- medical knowledge desirable but not
necessary
- no ideological or religious faith is a prerequisite, but the YBS is a socialist militia, under Democratic Confederalism ideas with deep ideology that needs to be respected.
During the one-month training we will see whether you are suitable or not. If not, you have to leave us independently.
We will make sure that you will be picked up in the city we have given you and brought to Shengal. Equipment, uniform, weapons, etc. you will be given in Shengal. The YBŞ takes care of the way home if all requirements are met after the contract.

- There is no absolute guarantee of fighting in combat
- You have book a room in a hotel, which we will tell you of. You'll have to stay there for some time until we pick you up. This can take days or weeks.
- Once we pick you up, you'll not need to spend any more money.
- Don't bring any military equipment (uniform, patches, etc. )
- The way to Şengal is difficult and risky. Be prepared for anything.
- Everything is on a voluntary basis. We don't get paid.
- Once in Shengal, you will receive a one month training ( It doesnt matter, if you have previous military experience or not). For the basic training, you will receive your weapon (AK style rifle) without ammunition. You will receive ammunition, once you've completed your training.
- Be patient. This is not your country, this is Kurdistan. Things are and work different here.
- Things we recommend you to bring to Shengal but not obligation:
- Powerbank (there is no stable source of electricity in Shengal)
- Good shoes (Suitable for trekking and walking. We don't recommend boots)
- Good and sturdy backpack
- Good headlight
- Canteen/Camelback system
NOT VISA IS NEEDED FROM MANY COUNTRIES CITIZENS TO TRAVEL TO IRAQI KURDISTAN (USA, EUROPEAN CITIZENS...) for other countries check
